Manali has always been one of the most prominent hill stations in India. So, we all were disturbed and kept a close eye on the rescue operations in December 2024. With thousands of tourists stranded and “Manali Koi Bhi Mat Aana” slogans surfacing on social media, we were all worried about the rampage of nature.
And now, Solang Valley and Manali are once again hit by rain disasters and floods. As a traveler, I keep asking myself,
“What are we doing with Manali and other Himalayan regions?”
“Are we building too many roads in the name of infrastructure development and how can we stop the deforestation?”
“How are we going to fight or even stand in the face of climate change if we cut down so many trees?”
Well, nobody addresses the questions, but we all know the answer. So, when the MP, Kangana Ranaut, faces a backlash from the locals, it is not against a person or a political party, but it’s like a cloudburst against how we have failed Manali and the Himalayan regions in the name of tourism.
Nevertheless, Solang Valley and the other places to visit in Manali will always be prominent names in the tourism landscape of India. And in this Dream and Travel Guide, I will discuss why Solang Valley is so special and why we need to preserve it.
