“Great Colombian food! I ordered some cheese bread (sorry forgot the Colombian name), empanada, and Bandeja Paisa! I enjoyed the meal with a bunch of colleagues and friends. It may be a bit difficult to spot from the road, but it has a small sign, and it is in a gas station. The place was clean, and the service was good.”

“Great food truck! Fast and friendly with large portions. The Arena was just the right amount of saucy and spicy but still let you taste the chorizo and chicken. 12 dollars for a huge sandwich and a coke left me happy and stuffed. You can watch them cook everything up fresh. They are always one of my top choices when they are at The Nashville Farmers Market.”

“Yes yes and yes!!! Finally found a delicious Latin restaurant in Dekalb county. Everything was yummy. We started with empanadas and a strawberry mojito. They were so good. For my entree, I ordered the bandeja paisa and was surprised by the amount of food I received for $16.99. Wow! I’ll be back. The restaurant vibe is very chill and family oriented. Keep in mind that your waiter may not be fluent in English. I think that thats part of the charm. I’m from Miami. This restaurant made me feel like I was back home.”

Colombian Food You Must Try
If you want to get started on some dishes to try at the restaurants, here are a few:
Pescado Frito y Arroz Con Coco
One of the crowd’s favorite dishes, which is quite popular on the Caribbean coast, is the fried fish served with coconut rice, patacones (fried plantain), and a simple salad. The fish is cooked whole and the best part is the cheek. The fish has a fresh taste and although the seasoning is mild, the flavor of the rice and meat is really satisfying. This costeño-style meal is typically served for lunch or dinner and is best enjoyed with red snapper or tilapia. If you’re in Cartagena, you can find several fishermen along the beach selling their morning catch at a very reasonable price. While the fish is locally sourced along the coast, it may not be the case in the capital region.
Arepas
Arepas, a popular street food in Central and South America, has gained immense popularity in Colombia. Arepas con queso, which is filled with cheese, and arepas con huevos, filled with eggs and meat, are the most popular types of arepas. They are an ideal option for a quick meal on the go anytime during the day. Arepa de nuevo, which is a coastal specialty from Cartagena and Barranquilla, is a must-try. To ensure that the arepas are fresh, it is advisable to choose a food stand with a long queue of people waiting to eat. There is also a larger and flatter version of arepas, which is a corn-based bread and is usually served with breakfast, lunch, or dinner, particularly in farming areas. Don’t forget to try the Antiochian style of arepas that come with pork sausage.
Bandeja Paisa
Bandeja de paisa is a dish that originated in Santa Fe and Medellín and has become so popular among Colombians that it’s now considered the national dish of Colombia. This typical Antioquian meal is a hearty breakfast that includes white rice, chorizo, plantain, red beans, chicharron (pork crackling), a fried egg, some ground or minced beef, an arepa, and a slice of avocado. It’s a generous serving of food that was originally meant to provide field workers with enough energy to get through their workday, so it’s best to pace yourself. Be prepared to take a nap afterward if you manage to finish all of it in one sitting!
